Your Questions About Best Blog Design Sites

Posted on May 31, 2011 by Blog Design Journal

David asks…

Question about setting up a blog..?

Can somebody please direct me to the best blog hosting site on the web? I’m interested in a free site, and with designs that are suitable for a serious business. There are so many to choose from, I don’t know where to start.

For those who post an answer, can you give a reason or two as to why you prefer that particular site?

Thanks !

I like Xanga.
It’s easy to use and set up and you can upgrade it if you want more.

Susan asks…

Optimizing website design?

In your experience, what tips do you have for the optimal web design? Smaller images? Larger width? Best ad placement? What keeps a user coming back to the site? (design wise)
I am building a written content-based site that will allow users to submit their own content. I already have the code for it, but designing is really getting to me. I am more of a coder than a designer, so i am sort of stumped here. Any suggestions for a blog/stories design?

Blog Design Journal answers:

Hello there.

Web design is one of the main reasons that users would keep coming back to your website to visit. Yet, it’s just a part of it. The way you organize and the significance of your content is more important to the users.

When you do website optimization, especially that your website is a written content-based site, you should consider how interesting or how informative your site should be. And when it comes to the web design part, make it as simple and use neutral colors if possible, with clear images and not overpowering the contents of your site. Don’t make the pages too wide or the users may find it annoying to use L-F scroll bars. ?

Hope my simple tips are helpful in any ways. Thanks a lot.

Fashion Design Career?

im a 17 year old senior in high school and i wanted on some advice on fashion design i want to become a fashion designer when i graduate in june im attending college in August and i wanted to know how should i prepare my self i have my own fashion Portfolio and i have had 6 different collages take a look at it and all of them said i did a really great job for me not to attend any design schools my sisters best friends older cousin graduate last year and she made her a blog-spot site with her designs and is now working with some designers to get her clothing in stores

WHAT SHOULD I DO??

Blog Design Journal answers:

I find it highly unlikely that 6 different colleges told you not to attend any design schools. I guess it is possible to walk out of high school and become an instant overnight successful fashion designer, but I wouldn’t count on it.

I have been there and done that…. You may have raw talent, but it is a dog-eat-dog world out there and when push comes to shove, as an employer, I will hire the individual who has had more diversity in their background gained through their educational experience.

There is more to the fashion industry than drawing a few sketches, sewing a few garments. Go to school, take the design courses, but also take courses in business, economics, technology… Trust me, you will be glad you did. I know there are certain things you can only learn on the job, but you need to get that job first… You will not be sorry.

I talk from experience… I am considerably older than you, but had aspirations of being a designer way back in high school as well…Eventually, I went back to school and got a degree in art and theater… Went on to get a master’s degree in apparel design (at the same time I had two children in college!)… I am now successfully employed in the apparel industry and I would not be here without the education.

Good luck
