WordPress.Com CSS customization Help?

I am editing the CSS fr my wordpress.COM blog. I changed the color of the page wrapper so there is a blue border around everything, but now, where the last sidebar widget ends, it turns all dark blue (the color of the page wrapper.) I added a bunch of breaks in the widget to get the lighter sidebar color to extend down, but now, when I post something new, it gets messed up and my footer image goes down, and you can see the dark blue where the last post ends. What can I do so that when I post something new and the entire blog height changes, how to get the footer picture along with the continuous light blue sidebar color to move up and align with the last post. so, basically, I want the sidebar border and the footer image to stay together and line up with everything else as posts change. I realize this is kind of confusing…….my blog is ringling9.wordpress.com (I dont have the css upgrade yet, I want to figure out my design first.)

Susan asks…

How do you make a customised theme for WordPress blog?

Hey guys, I’ve recently started a new blog on wordpress (http://generationfood.wordpress.com – check it out!)

It’s about food and I’d like to have a theme that makes it more related to the subject of my blog. For instance, having images of food in the background. With the themes provided by WordPress, I can’t seem to do this.

There are blogs out there I’ve seen that don’t look like one of the themes provided by WordPress and always wondered how the do this. Does this require experience in web design or programming?

Blog Design Journal answers:

Checke out your blog & it looks very informative and clean. And your right, you could use some creativity and nice graphics to make it even better.

If you’re good at HTML & CSS programming, then you can make your theme whatever you want it to be. But I’m assuming you’re just a novice like myself in graphics. So you’re best bet would be to search for customized wordpress themes which are available on the net for free.

And if you really want to go pro..then you can even buy one of the really high-tech premium themes. Sometimes, they are worth the price. Yo ujust have to make sure that you’re getting them from a reliable company.

There is a great theme you can install in the THEMES – ADD NEW THEMES section.

It’s called ATAHUALPA – and you can pretty much change everything, without learing any programming.

I would suggest setting up an extra blog on your server, just use a subdomain, and play with it there, so you aren’t messing with your live blog.

Enjoy!

360 blog design nightmares!!!?

I am somewhat disgusted with my 360 blog. I have spent countless hours trying to design it. Yahoo, seems not to give much freedom when it comes to content. I want updating content. most is in javascript.Java is one of the no no ‘s. I would also like to have the videos in a thumbnail view opening in another window. I am at the point of trying to move everything to another space. Will someone please look at my site over and tell me if they have any ideas of what I can do to get it back on track.

just should I start over somewhere else for more control.

How can I save my current work if I go somewhere else?

Where can I build my blog where I have more control?

my blog is www.thatsamazingvideo.com

I’m interested in running the open-source WordPress <http://wordpress.org/> blogging software and I was wondering if my yahoo account supported the following:

* PHP 4.2 or greater
* MySQL 4.0 or greater
* The mod_rewrite Apache module

Thanks!

Blog Design Journal answers:

Hey! Welcome to 360.

First, I suggest contacting the 360 team via their feedback form at http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/360/forms_index.html about using code besides HTML. They have a blog which tracks fixes as they are made and has tips for certain features, see http://blog.360.yahoo.com/product_360 .

Keep in mind that 360 is still in beta. So, it seems like many people are incurring problems across the board. Also, they are trying out new things as well – hence “beta.” No feature is set in stone. It is in “test” mode.

Also, there is a Yahoo Group that you may want to join called “Making Your 360 More Interesting” at

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/makingyour360moreinteresting/

Good luck!
